The beginning. When did the Laureates’ festival start?
Established in August 2000 in Mfou, a small locality located 30 km from Yaoundé, the Laureates’ Festival is an initiative by christian parents with the following objectives:
- To celebrate the professional and academic successes of their children in an atmosphere of gratitude.
- To encourage excellence by offering gifts to young students at the elementary, high school, and university levels.
- To provide guidance and solace to those who faced setbacks throughout the year.
- To enjoy food, drinks, and dancing.
Over the years, the festival has evolved into a spiritual landmark for the youth, a place for personal and cultural development, a source of motivation, and a stepping stone for future endeavors.
Successive generations of laureates have passed, and the idea of perpetuating this event became self-evident.
Today, the AFED – primarily composed of former laureates – is committed to keeping this tradition alive and to further extending its support to the Cameroonian youth from all walks of life.
When does the Laureates’ Festival take place?
Traditionally, the Laureates’ Festival occurs during the second half of the month of August. Participation is either by request or invitation.
The course of events during the Laureates’ Festival
Since its inception, the Laureates’ Festival follows this pattern:
- Thanksgiving mass: During this service, young individuals receive advice on how to sanctify their studies and work. Blessings are bestowed upon the laureates during this service.
- Laureates’ evening: The evening begins with a meal, followed by a series of educational discussions and testimonials. Following the testimonials, young participants are awarded prizes to inspire excellence and commitment for the upcoming year.
